.) There will be absolutely NO bashing any form of the Phantom story at all (this includes, but is not limited to: the 2004 movie, the Argento movie, Love Never Dies, Susan Kay's Phantom, and Forscythe's The Phantom of Manhattan). The first time a member or guest does this, they will receive a warning. Any time they are caught bashing after that will result in an immediate 24 hour suspension from the chat or from posting depending on the medium in which the bashing occurred, and the bashing comment shall be deleted. If this becomes a regular offense, the member or guest WILL be banned from the site. No exceptions. This does not mean that you are not allowed to dislike a certain version or state that you dislike it, as long as you are able to state such in a respectful manner accompanied by valid reasoning (which does NOT include flaming, bashing, or derogatory language). We realize (as bizarre as it may sound it's unfortunately real) the existence of certain campaign groups that have been created against specific versions of the story and will not, under any circumstance, tolerate such hate groups spreading to this forum.
.) There will be no use of derogatory terms toward any person for any reason, including but not limited to, vulgar language directed to a person about race, religion, nationality, sexuality, political views, disability, or the person in general.
.) There is to be no posting in anyone else's character's “journal” without an administrator first receiving written permission from the character's typist as proof that this post has been verified and approved by that specific character's typist. Any posts made without this permission will be deleted and result in a warning.
.) There will be NO drama brought over from ANY site, nor will there be any created here. If you have a concern about a person coming into the site based on previous experiences, please take it up with an administrator and the staff team will see to it that a safety net is put in place in order to prevent any further conflict. If you are a new member coming onto the site and have an issue with a previously existing member, then by joining the site you acknowledge that you are aware of their presence here, and that you will not try to stir up trouble between the two of you.
.) The minimum word count for in-character posting is 120 words. If it is brought to the staff's attention that a certain post is shorter than this limit, the poster will be asked to edit their post in order to make it longer. If this becomes a repeat issue, the poster in question will be disabled from posting for a period of 24 hours. We do this so that other players have some sort of substance to reply to in their posts. Be sure to give the person you're posting with a good basis for them to reply to.
.) We do, in some circumstances, allow “casual” threads, which do not have a required word count like any other thread, but these threads MUST first be approved by an administrator and MUST be for the purpose of “catching up” a character that has fallen behind in the plot.
.) In order to make sure that members have read the rules before posting, in the application, there is a section at the bottom that says p a s s w o r d. for this section, please put the following mot de p a s s e based upon the FIRST NAME of your character that you are applying for

.) Be respectful to all members, guests, staff, etc.! Make sure that the place is fun for everyone!
.) If you know that you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, please post an absence note. Otherwise, we prefer members to make an effort to post (for every character) at least once every 2 weeks.
.) There will be absolutely no godmoding (unless approved by the typist of the character being godmoded), power playing, Mary-Sues/Gary-Stews, etc.
.) We expect all members to be able to use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. Special consideration will be given to those who do not speak English as a first language. We are aware that everyone makes typos on occasion, which is why we will not be too terribly strict about this rule, but if it gets to the point were it becomes difficult for other members to comprehend and reply to posts on a regular basis because of it, the offender will be spoken to by a staff member. We are willing to assist those who need assistance with this matter, but it is a basic expectation of all of our members.
.) While we are not a crossover site, we DO allow crossover characters from other Victorian era plots (i.e. Sherlock Holmes, The Picture of Dorian Grey, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc.) if they fit in the plotline. You MUST have permission from an administrator BEFORE applying for a crossover character. We are NOT a supernatural site, and do NOT allow angels, demons, ghosts, etc. unless they are a pre-approved dead canon character. When in doubt, ask an administrator. We also DO allow and encourage historical figures from this era in Paris, and some of them are actually on the canon list because they are also characters mentioned in Leroux's novel.
.) Also, as a reminder, this site is based on LEROUX'S novel and NOT SUSAN KAY'S novel. Any character that is based on Kay's adaptation rather than Leroux's will not be accepted and will be asked to be redone using Leroux as a basis. This does not mean that we do not allow elements from the Kay novel to be used in things such as history, or from other versions for element of history even, but we will not accept a brunette Christine, a Meg who is Christine's best friend, a Madame Giry who teaches ballet, a Philippe who is heir to a champagne fortune, a daroga named Nadir Khan, an Italian Carlotta who can't sing, an Erik with only half of his face deformed, a blonde Meg, a ballerina Christine, a Siamese cat named Ayesha, personal assistants of Erik, etc. There will also be NO MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF THE SAME CHARACTER.
.) The number of posts required for any character after your first character is 25 posts, most of which should be in-character. You may begin an application for another character before reaching this amount, but until the 25 posts is reached, your application may be reviewed, but you will NOT be allowed to post as the character if it is accepted.
.) Any member may have up to six characters total unless it is determined by the administrative team that they are capable of maintaining more.
.) All in-character posting must be done in the third person past tense unless either:
.) Avatars should be no larger than 100x100 pixels, and signatures and other graphics should be no wider than 500 pixels. While we DO have automatic image re-sizing, we ask that, for the sake of people with slower systems, the signatures especially abide to this size rule. We do not mind terribly if a graphic from the web that is there for another purpose is larger. That is what the re-sizing is for. We DO ask that players try to use a faceclaim with period pictures, and there is a list of suggestions if you need help with this. Exceptions may be made if you are able to at least find photos and edit in a manner to where the faceclaim could have been in the period.
.) Since we ARE a proboards hosted forum, we are required to have a rating of (you can read about forum ratings here if you are not familiar. We do not particularly mind if your roleplaying maturity content is higher than that, so long as it is either kept to the Private Messages on the board, or hosted off-board (skype is a great means for this if you do wish to have more mature content).

- you are responding to a prompt and the prompt specifically says either that you may write in first person, or that you must write in first person.
